Wellington Skyrockets 13-1 - HC: Wade Williams

Muenster Hornets 14-0 - HC: Brady Carney


How Wellington got here: Wellington has defeated Shamrock 60-12 in Bi-District; Farwell 34-0 in Area; Gruver 56-13 in Regional and Clarendon 33-0 in Quarterfinals to advance to the 2017 Texas UIL Football Semifinals where they will face the Muenster Hornets.

Wellington will have its biggest test of the season this coming Thursday, the Skyrockets last defeat came in the season opener to 3A Childress Bobcats 9-8, since then the Skyrockets have gone on a 13 game winning streak including the playoffs and have outscored their opponents 629-119.

The Muenster Hornets on the other hand are also making their own history, they are 14-0, have a 14 game winning streak and outscoring opponents including playoffs 759-73, these Hornets also defeated a solid Albany squad last week in the quarterfinals 28-12 to advance to the semifinals. Both teams are scoring machines and have a pretty good defense but Muenster does have the advantage in scoring and point allowed, both teams score quick and do most of their damage in the first half of games so the fist half of this game should interesting.


Wellington keys to success:

Offense: QB Luke Williams will need to avoid any turnovers, take what the defense gives him whether that be a 5 yard run or pass, a heavy dose of speedy RB JOJO McKnight and Stran Mclain and run the clock down and play keep away from Muenster.

Defense: 6-4, 245 DT/OT Drake Welch and 6-11, 350 Trevor Roberson anchoring the d-line will need to make Muenster QB Parker Mcgrew uncomfortable and force them to 3rd and longs. Seven Wilbur and the rest of the secondary will have their biggest test to date as they will face an explosive offense very similar to their own so they will need to hold down their assignments.

How Muenster got here: Muenster defeated Petrolia 42-6 in bi-district; Iraan 60-0 in area; Munday 55-7 in regional and Albany 28-12 in quarterfinals.


 Muenster keys to success: 

Offense: QB Parker Mcgrew will need to continue to mix it up with a healthy dose of running and passing the ball to his plethora of receiving corp. Incorporate Senior RB Clay Stevens in more screen passes and find ways to have long drives which will limit the Skyrockets opportunities. 

Defense: Two way player Sr. Clay Steven (6 Interceptions) will need to continue his excellent play on defense and wreck havoc for the Skyrockets offense. MLB Carson Trubenbach will have has to cover sideline to sideline in order to stop Wellingtons running game. Force Wellington to throw the ball more and apply pressure with different blitzs packages.

The winners of this game will head to the State Title where they will face the winner from Tenaha/Burton game.
