Lubbock, Texas - 2018 Quarterfinals Playoff Game #1 between Amarillo High Sandies and Lubbock Coronado Mustangs, both teams met up last year in 2017 in the quarterfinals round where the Sandies swept the Mustangs and advanced to the semifinals. These team also met up in the regular season splitting a game each so both team were familiar with each other and as both teams advance throughout the playoff rounds it was looking like a rematch could happen.

Texas Tech commit and possibly MLB future draftee Max Marusak got a chance to experience what it would feel like to play at Dan Law Field but the night belonged to fellow teammate Trevor Andrus.

Senior Trevor Andrus pitched a complete game on Friday night, had six strikeouts, allowing 5 hits and only one earned run on the mound and equally affecting the game at the plate with 4 rbi's on the night. Trevor brought in the Sandies first run in the 1st inning and then in the top of the third inning, Trevor line drives a hit to left field that results in a three run double to clear the bases and put the Sandies up 4-0 going into the top of the 5th inning. The Mustangs finally got on the board in the fifth inning but couldn't generate enough momentum to make a comeback, Trevor ended up retiring the next several hitters to finish the game.

The Sandies defense backed up Trevor's pitching performance throughout the game from turning double plays to the outfield making spectacular catches and not allowing the Mustangs to gain any traction. Ultimately Coronado got behind in the game and couldn't generate enough momentum to make comeback.

Amarillo High takes a 1-0 lead heading into game two, Game 2 will be on Saturday @ 3pm back at Dan Law Field.
